Aug. 14
Hollywood’s Cafe in Chandlerville will host a fried chicken buffet with proceeds going to the Chandlerville Improvement Council and the Chandlerville Burgoo.  The fundraiser will be held from 4-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 14.

August 16
Movie in the Park will be held at Jennie Marr Dunaway Memorial Park in Virginia, on Saturday, August 16 at dusk. (8:30). Bring your family, blankets and chairs and watch the movie, “42” (legend of Jackie Robinson).

Slaw Dawg’s 50/60s Diner will host their Ninth Annual Cruise-In from 4-8 p.m., Saturday, August 16 at 218 W. South Street in Astoria. Nine trophies will be given out. No entry fee. For more information call Jerry Barnes at 309-333-3130 or Neil Danner at 309-329-2774.

Aug. 20
Virginia CUSD# 64  registration for grades K-12 will be held on Wednesday, August 20 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., in the Administration Office (Band Room).

August 21, 22, 23
DNR hunter safety course at First Southern Baptist Church, 426 Maple Ave., Rushville. Classes will be held Aug. 21 and 22 from 6 to 9 p.m. and Aug. 23 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Sangamon River Audubon is hosting a Hummingbird Festival on Aug. 9, from 8-11 a.m. at the New Salem Visitor Center. The event is open to the public.

Aug. 9
Black Oak Church, Upper Meredosia Road, will host its monthly potluck/open mic Gospel Sing on Saturday, August 9. This month will feature guitarists Steve Jokisch, Art Derry, Dick Morrell, and “Harmony.”

Area residents will have an opportunity to learn basic principles of safe hunting at a Dept. of Natural Resources hunter safety course. The course is scheduled for Friday, August 1 from 6 to 10 p.m. and Saturday, August 2 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Beardstown Golden Age Center.

Arenzville Library will present Fun Fridays again continuing through August 15. The program is at Burgoo Park, from 9:30-11 a.m. Miss Wilson will have “Fun and Games” on Friday, July 25. The children check out books and get a treat before leaving. For questions, please call Sue Farmer at 997-2202.

July 25-27
The play, “Grease,” will be performed at the Beardstown High School auditorium, July 25 and 26 at 7 p.m., and Sunday, July 27 at 2 p.m. Tickets for the show are available from any cast member (listed on Beardstown Choirs Facebook page) or at the door.

The Cass-Morgan Farm Bureau Foundation “Playday” will be held at The Links Golf Course & Sportsman Club in Jacksonville on Monday, July 28. Members and non-members are welcome to participate in a fun day.

A-C Central High School will host a blood drive at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, located at 800 West Main St. in Ashland, from  8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The Jockisch, Hendricker, Krohe Reunion will be held on Sunday, July 20 at the Nazarene Hall in Beardstown with a potluck dinner following church services.

A blood drive will be held from 12-6 p.m. at VFW Post 1239, 610 E. 4th St. in Beardstown.

All presenting blood donors from June 30 through July 7 will receive a commemorative Red Cross t-shirt while supplies last.

Exchange Club's Senior Connection will be held at the Golden Age Center from 1:30 - 3 p.m.
The "Only In America" themed party will include a patriotic music sing-along with Christy Bley, followed by the viewing of a DVD of a true story, narrated by Tom Brokaw, about the Berlin "Candy Bomber" - Lt. Gail Halversen.

The Cass County Historical and Genealogical Society will have their annual meeting at 2 p.m. at the office in Virginia. Guest speaker will be Erika Holtz to speak on The Todd Sisters.

June 25
Final Brown Bag in the Park concert from noon till 1 p.m., featuring Dick Tater and the Tots. The group features Rick Dennis on vocal, John Thurman on bass, Roger Ward on fiddle and Pete Vredenburgh on drums. They perform musical renditions of favorites from 60’s to classic country.

June 13-14
The 14th annual St. Jude’s Trail Ride will be at Jim Edgar Panther Creek. Activites for Friday evening will be a chicken dinner and music. Saturday’s activities include an auction, pork chop sandwiches, and music.
June 15
There will be a 3D Shoot at Beardstown Area Archery Club range (located just off Arenz Lane outside of Beardstown). The event is a 4-H Shooting Sports fundraiser and will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost is $10 per person.
June 18
Wednesday, June 18 at noon, Brown Bag Lunch in the Park features Christy Bley performing a wide variety of contemporary music and a traditional folk style which offers a feel-good hour of music.

June 22

Narcotics Anonymous meets at 7 p.m., Monday and Friday at First Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Senior Coffee Hour at the Beardstown Houston Memorial Library is the first Monday of the month, except holidays from 9 to10 a.m.

Cass County Historical and Genealogical Society office will reopen in April. Hours are Thursday & Friday afternoons 1 - 4 p.m., Saturday mornings 10 - 12 p.m.

Beardstown Main Street “Brown Bag Lunch” in the Park each Wednesday starting June 4. There will be entertainment during the lunch hour in the city square. Brown Bag lunches, provided by Main Street will be available for purchase for those not having a lunch.

Prairie Skies Public Library “PAWS TO READ” summer reading programs every Monday in June and July. Ashland main library, located at 125 West Editor, will have a 10 a.m. program for those early risers, and the Pleasant Plains branch, located at 555 Buckeye Road, will repeat the same program at 1 p.m.

Beardstown Houston Memorial Library will hold a summer reading program starting June 17 through July 23. Craft time will be held from 2 to 3 p.m., Tuesdays. Story time will be held from 2 to 3 p.m., Thursdays. Children under 10 years old must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
