County to offer delinquent properties for sale

Cass County, as Trustee, has completed their tax deed proceedings on real estate properties that were delinquent for 2010 and mobile homes that were delinquent for 2011 and prior real estate taxes. The County, as Trustee, will not offer for sale the real estate and mobile homes obtained to the public. They will offer approximately 32 real estate items and six mobile home items through a sealed bid auction sale. All sealed bids must be in the Cass County Treasurer’s Office located in the Cass County Courthouse, 100 E. Springfield Street, Virginia, Illinois 62691 no later than the close of business on Aug. 8.


Plans being made for the Chandlerville Burgoo

The schedule is being finalized for the Chandlerville Burgoo to be held Aug. 21-23 and will include two new events.
New this year will be a dog show, “Who Let the Dogs Out,” at 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21. The event will include three categories: best costume, owner/ dog look-a-likes, and cutest dog. A Best of Show winner will receive a $75 cash prize.

Beardstown Big League All-Stars capture the state championship

The Beardstown Big League All-Stars traveled to South Holland Park this past weekend and proved their mettle by grabbing two wins over South Cicero 19-0, and a nail-bitter 6-5 win over South Horner Park.
By winning both games, the young Lady Tigers have moved into the championship contest of the State Finals.
They will play the winners of the South Holland-South Horner Park game on Tuesday.
The team is comprised of: Shelby Koehler, Haleigh Hammel, and Allison Dewalt of West Hancock; Kathy Wilson, Macomb; Elyce Trout, Illini West; Rachael Motley, Barry; Megan Winston, Brown County; Alexis Ensminger, Stronghurst (out with knee injury); Aileana Rawlins, Madison Cowell, and Maddie Fox, of Beardstown.

July 25
Arenzville Library will present Fun Fridays again continuing through August 15. The program is at Burgoo Park, from 9:30-11 a.m. Miss Wilson will have “Fun and Games” on Friday, July 25. The children check out books and get a treat before leaving. For questions, please call Sue Farmer at 997-2202.

July 25-27
The play, “Grease,” will be performed at the Beardstown High School auditorium, July 25 and 26 at 7 p.m., and Sunday, July 27 at 2 p.m. Tickets for the show are available from any cast member (listed on Beardstown Choirs Facebook page) or at the door.

July 28
The Cass-Morgan Farm Bureau Foundation “Playday” will be held at The Links Golf Course & Sportsman Club in Jacksonville on Monday, July 28. Members and non-members are welcome to participate in a fun day.

Aug. 1
Area residents will have an opportunity to learn basic principles of safe hunting at a Dept. of Natural Resources hunter safety course. The course is scheduled for Friday, August 1 from 6 to 10 p.m. and Saturday, August 2 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Beardstown Golden Age Center.

Aug. 9
Sangamon River Audubon is hosting a Hummingbird Festival on Aug. 9, from 8-11 a.m. at the New Salem Visitor Center. The event is open to the public.
